Fishing in the shallow water estuaries on Florida's east coast for Spotted Sea Trout is one of the best ways to spend a day with your spouse or friend. Orlando offers spectacular fishing enjoyment for anglers of all skill level and age.
Long known for it's abundant large trout, Florida's east coast's lagoons holds the esteemed all tackle world record trout for several decades and continues to provide some of the largest speckled sea trout to date. Speckled or Spotted Sea trout struggled from the late 1970's when over-harvesting from commercial entanglement netting decimated the fishery driving Floridians to the polls and amending the state constitution to ban all entanglement nets from inland waters and out three nautical miles offshore. This 1992 vote improved inshore fishing drastically clearing the way for all the inshore gamefish to thrive again by taking commercial interest out of the inshore bays and inland waterways. Inshore saltwater sportsfishing near Orlando is thriving and doing exceptional now thanks to the efforts of recreational fisherman and the Florida voters.
Spawning for the sea trout on Florida's central east coast happens in the spring and continues into the early summer. This is the best time to catch the big ones and perhaps the greatest numbers of larger trout. During the hotter months of June, July and August, trout are spread out in the lagoons or find shelter near shaded docks or cooler waters where there's tidal flow and water transfer. Look for trout during the night or early morning hours during those higher temperature time periods. Winter can concentrate the numbers of trout into deep water areas and sets the fishery up for the pre-spawn periods before heading out to the spawning grounds around sandbars and dropoffs. Each season in Florida holds different types of trout fishing from popping cork fishing to topwaters, jigs and various live baits too.
If catching large trout is your goal, the cooler months are the answer explains Captain Richard of Lagooner Fishing Guides. "I have anglers come from all over the United States looking for big gator trout and find that the winter and spring are the most consistent months. During the summer months trout get uncomfortable and will only feed in the coolest part of the day."
Expert trout anglers know that the biggest fish come from the shallowest parts of the lagoon. Look for bait fish like mullet or clean shallow grassflats and you'll likely find this predators lurking around waiting for a meal.
"I decided at the last moment to climb on board and go fishing with my husband. Boy am I glad I did, I caught my biggest fish ever and had more fun catching sea trout when we visited the Orlando area this spring. I'll be back again!"

Sea trout offer a great opportunity and excuse for people to find a friend and get out on in the great outdoors. Florida's Orlando area has some of the best outdoors and fishing destinations in the world where spotted sea trout and other game fish await for the fishing enthusiast.
Hello,
I'm Captain Gina Bradley from Orlando Florida and I'm declaring "it's time to go fishing with a friend day!" It's ALWAYS time to take a sweet heart or family member out on the water to catch a few fish when you're vacationing in the beautiful Florida sunshine. I've been married to a fisherman for over twenty years and the times we spend on the water are simply the best bonding times for us. We spend time pulling in fish and talking about things we don't ordinarily do and all while we're pulling in dinner in the beautiful weather we have in Florida.
If you're coming to our area anytime soon. Please give me a call and set up a trip with us to go fish for spotted sea trout or any other Florida gamefish that we have biting during that time. We'd love to have you!

Spring is probably one of the most enjoyable and productive times of the year for big spawning sea trout in Central Florida. After all the cold snaps are over, trout move out towards the sandbars and shallow grass flats on the leeward sides of oyster bars and rises on the bottom. This time period can be a "fire fight" as the trout will pounce on anything thrown in their spawning territory and the fish are stacked up. Not only is it the best time to fish for big spawning sea trout in the Orlando area, it's also the best time in Florida with mild warm temperatures and crystal clear warmer water.
