Big Game Fishing Orlando Florida

Fishing for Big Game Species Offshore of Orlando Florida

"It's exciting to take a day in the Atlantic Ocean and go Big Game Fishing with an experienced charter fishing Captain out of Orlando, Florida." explains an angler that took his son out fishing recently with Captain Richard Bradley of Lagooner Fishing Charters. "My son and I caught cobia till our arms hurt and big king mackerel, I couldn't have dreamed of a better day on the ocean fishing for gamefish near our home in Orlando.

Orlando Black Drum FishingBig Game fishing out of Orlando Florida includes a day of deep sea fishing or trolling with live baits for large offshore fish. We often include a time of bottom fishing for benthic or bottom dwelling fish like snapper, grouper or seabass," explains Captain Richard Bradley. "Years ago I took my brother-in-law out charter fishing out of Orlando and he landed this nice sailfish in the late 80's. I had to show this photo of John and I out on a day in my small twenty foot mako fishing for big game in the gulf stream almost thirty five miles out. See I told you I'd put your photo on the web site John!"

Central Florida has great entertainment from the Orlando area and directly east of Orlando is some fine offshore saltwater ocean fishing for big game species like you've seen on television. During the summer you'll find awesome fishing in calm ocean waters and plenty of reel action for anglers to really sink their desires into. Captain Richard Bradley has over 30 years of experience fishing for Big Game directly east of Orlando. While growing up in the Orlando area and being a third generation Orlando area native, Richard's father often took him out fishing in the 60's and 70's out of Port Canaveral and the Atlantic Ocean near their hometown. Now Richard takes anglers out to enjoy what his father showed him when he was young. Times are better than ever for many of the fish out of Orlando and if you take a day and go fishing while you're visiting the area you won't regret it.

"I went out fishing with Captain Richard years ago and we caught the spectacular sail fish that's photographed above. I still remember that day as if it was yesterday and have went fishing with him as often as I can and I've never been disappointed. If' it's too rough to go fishing offshore he's a great inshore fishing guide and fishing on the saltwater lagoons east of Orlando is a real treat too." John Ordonez

Big Game and Sports Fish

  • Cobia
  • Mahi Mahi
  • Kingfish
  • Grouper
  • Red Snapper
  • Sailfish

Cobia, Ling, Crab Eater, Lemon Fish

Cobia, Ling, Crab Eater, Lemon Fish

Cobia are hard fighting, heavy fish that never seem to give up the battle even after they're boated. Average size of this fish seems to be over 25 lbs with 35-40 lbs not uncommon. Brown to black colored with no teeth, short spikes on their backs and plenty of "BIG FISH" attitude. Cobia are often mistaken by anglers for sharks and can be seen freely swimming near the surface near floatsome or structure. For the most part cobia are dark brown but can have some color fluctuation due to genetics or habitat.

Dolphin, Mahi Mahi, Dorado

Dolphin, Mahi Mahi, Dorado

Mahi-mahi are one of the best tasting and most sought after gamefish in the world. When hooked they "light up" with bright blue green and yellow colors that are the envy of any other species.

Lagooner Charter Fishing Captains and Guides have developed time tested methods of trolling, sightfishing and live-baiting tactics to target these fast and agressive fish species. We generally target these fish in the months of May - June and then again in November and December. Remember that the fall is a tough month for recreational offshore fishing because of the winds and rough water, but the rewards for catching dolphin are tremdous for those fortunate enough to get a good day for offshore fishing for dorado off the coast of Central Florida.

King Mackerel, King Fish, Kingfish, Mackerel

King Mackerel, King Fish, Kingfish, Mackerel

Kingfish are colored iridescent bluish green on their backs with silvery sides a streamlined body and tapered heads. There is no black color on front of dorsal fins and lateral line starts high and drops sharply below the second dorsal fin. Young kingfish often have yellow spots like those of the Spanish mackerel.

East Central Florida host some of the best King Mackerel fishing in the United States. Lagooner Fishing Guides prides itself in our kingfish charter fishing tactics with live bait in the summer and fall months. One of the most enjoyable angling opportunities in Florida, the king mackerel has a prestigious and renowned tournament circuit targeting this species. The SKF or Southern Kingfish Association holds at least one tournament in the Canaveral area because of the consistency of the fishery.

Gag Grouper, Grey Grouper

Gag Grouper, Grey Grouper

This species of grouper has brownish gray in color with dark worm-like markings on sides. Gag or Grey Grouper are often confused with Black Grouper.

Probably the most popular grouper targeted on Florida's coastline, the Gag Grouper is the envy of bottom fisherman and is targeted for it's white, mild and tasty meat. The federal government has closed grouper fishing in 2010 and is possibly considering a ban on grouper fishing for several years as they consider it overfished. This particular government mandate is not indorsed by Lagooner Fishing Guides or it's staff because we believe that grouper are not in peril and can be managed effectively with harvest quotas.

Red Snapper, American Red Snapper

Red Snapper, American Red Snapper

Red Snapper are a brilliant Color of pinkish red over their entire body, whitish below; long triangular snout; anal fin sharply pointed; no dark lateral spot.

Snapper are an important commercial fish that is superb on the dinning table. Snapper has a semi-mild white meat that can have a slight seafood taste to the palette. Most anglers catch snapper while bottom fishing with live or dead bait, but they can be caught with an assortment of artificials.

The federal government has closed red snapper fishing in 2010 and is possibly considering a ban on snapper fishing for several years as they consider it overfished. This particular government mandate is not indorsed by Lagooner Fishing Guides or it's staff because we believe that red snapper are not in peril and can be managed effectively with harvest quotas.

Sailfish, Sail Fish

Sailfish, Sail Fish

Sailfish are colored dark blue on top, brown-blue laterally, silvery white underbelly; upper jaw elongated in form of spear; first dorsal greatly enlarged in the form of a sail, with many black spots, its front squared off, highest at its midpoint; pelvic fins very narrow, reaching almost to the anus; body covered with embedded scales, blunt at end; lateral line curved above pectoral, then straight to base of tail.
